Have you ever tried to motivate people and haven't had the results you're after?
Most of us believe that the best way to motivate ourselves and others is with external rewards like money and threats (of losing money or a job, etc.) — it's motivation by carrot-and-stick.
There's only one problem with the carrot-and-stick method of motivation.
It's completely outdated and no longer works.
That's what Dan Pink says in his provocative new book:
Drive: The Surprising Truth About What Motivates Us
The secret to high performance and satisfaction—at work, at school, and at home—is the deeply human need to direct our own lives, to learn and create new things, and to do better by ourselves and our world.
Drawing on four decades of scientific research on human motivation, Dan exposes the mismatch between what science knows and what business does—and how that affects every aspect of life.
In the short video below Daniel Pink, explains the difference between intrinsic and extrinsic motivation.

It's worth your viewing time.
I am excited to see such information regarding motivation criteria and its effects.I like the video which describes the good difference between intrinsic and extrinsic motivation and certain types.Self motivation is there but to raise the level, there should be sort of appreciation and rewards for the employee corner. So that the constitution firms become too strong and maximum output should be there.
