Understanding DiSC Relationships

Human Behavior is both a science and an art.

It is a science in the sense that it is observable and repeatable.  Research has enabled us to notice that most people have predictable patterns of behavior.

It is an art in the sense that we can experience it, modify it, and enjoy it.  We can feel our behavior and adjust it according to our circumstances and environment.

In human relationships we tend to form perceptions of others behavior.  At the initial onset of a relationship we have one perception, and as a relationship progresses with a peer or a partner, that perception can change.   We call this the before and after perspective. Here is what that might look like.

D - Dominant Style:

Before Relationship, you perceive your Peer or Partner  as . . .
Decisive, Independent, Efficient, Competitive, Determined, Courageous

After Relationship, you perceive your Peer or Partner as . . .
Impatient, Self-sufficient, Never slows down, Attacks First, Stubborn, Reckless

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
i - influencing Style:
Before Relationship, you perceive your Peer or Partner as . . .
Enthusiastic, Talkative, Optimistic, Outgoing, Personable, Persuasive
After Relationship, you perceive your Peer or Partner as . . .
Excitable, Talks too much, Unrealistic, Disorganized, Undisciplined, Manipulative
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
S - Steadiness Style:

Before Relationship, you perceive your Peer or Partner as . . .
Steadfast, Stable, Systematic, Dependable, Agreeable, Listening

After Relationship, you perceive your Peer or Partner as . . .
Resistant to Change, Over accommodating, Slower-paced, Unwilling to take charge, Indecisive, Non-communicative

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
C - Conscientiousness Style:
Before Relationship, you perceive your Peer or Partner as . . .
Critical, Serious, Conscientious, Intuitive, Orderly, Industrious
After Relationship, you perceive your Peer or Partner as . . .
Critical, Unsociable, Worries too much, Overly Sensitive, Perfectionistic, Fears Criticism ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Seek first to understand . . . then to be understood."
If I understand you and you understand me, doesn't it make sense that we will have a better relationship.
